In 1986, a line of 2” tall anthropomorphized cybernetic action figures was released in Japan. Each figurine featured a heat-activated sticker on their armor, in one of three possible suits: Fire, Wood and Water. As the battles ensued, Fire would defeat Wood, but loose to Water, and so on.

The Battle Beasts were of particular interest to both myself and my best friend. We would spend about as many hours drawing up our own versions of these creatures as we did playing with the actual toys. His sketches have always inspired, fueling my creative pursuits.
